Introducing the I4 Eyesore Set Made From Lego Parts

on

When I first moved to Central Florida in 2003, I chose the city of Longwood to call home.  On my daily commute I would pass by the construction site of the Majesty Building.   At first, I didn't think much of it, it was just another building under construction.  It was merely a shell, perhaps just 10 or so stories tall, all concrete floors and support pillars.  However, as it grew in height, it began to stand out. It became one of the tallest buildings within the Altamonte Springs and neighboring cities, prominently positioned next to the busy I-4 highway.

Over the years, as I became familiar with Altamonte Springs, I realized that the construction of this building wasn’t really progressing. Very rarely did you see any construction activity; it was mostly empty of workers or vehicles.

Every few months a new concrete floor was poured, and I soon learned why it had become a local landmark, unofficially named the “I4-Eyesore” .  It had been under construction for almost 3 years and no end in sight, its bare concrete shell exposed to the elements and visible to all who passed by on the busy I-4 highway running alongside it

Construction began way back in 2001 and was meant to be completed in just two years. After several years, it reached its final height of 18 floors. By 2006, the exterior glass was just starting to be installed on a fraction of the building, after already five years of construction. In 2018, a milestone was hit when the electricity was turned on, and at night, you could see inside the still-empty shell of the building. It became a talking point around town and made the local news.

Fast forward to 2024, and it still sits unfinished, with the interior remaining empty, some 23 years in the making.
I4 Eyesore Set Made From Lego parts

Earlier this year, I thought it would be fun to create a small model of the Majesty Building out of Lego.   And that’s how the the idea for our I4 Eyesore Set was born.   This building is iconic to anyone in the Orlando area or anyone who has ever driven through; more than likely, you have seen it!

Our set comes with 261 new LEGO pieces and digital building instructions. It captures the unique curve of the building along with its unfinished state. I thought it would be fun to have the crane on top carry a custom-printed tile reading “I-4 Eyesore,” highlighting its unofficial name as a reflection of its 23-year ongoing construction!

I hope you have as much fun building it as I had designing it. It makes a great talking point on your desk or as home decor, which your guests are sure to comment on!
