This little creation started off with Stitch—or rather, it began with drawer number S0626 as I pulled a LEGO parts order. Whenever I see that number, I think of him. From there, it evolved into a cute way to display him in minifig form. I wasn’t an experienced MOC builder, but I thought I could muddle my way through making a little wave to have him sit on my desk surfing.
Once I felt happy with that, I moved on to the wave, which took me a hot minute to decide on a direction. I began with some 1x2 bricks and round 1x1 bricks in medium azure. The pattern I chose was simple and repetitive, but it became apparent some variation in the coloring was needed. The wave was partially disassembled, changing out some of the medium azure for dark azure and blue.
Now for the foamy ends of the wave, which I wanted to gradually extend like a real wave would as it curled. Again, a bit of trial and error before settling on some inverted curved 2x1 slopes. The addition of the round 1x1 bricks in the design allowed the panel to be manipulated and curved slightly, creating this fun little barrel for Stitch to surf inside!
What started as a fun way to display Stitch has evolved into a surf scene that could be displayed with any minifigure inside. With a surfboard included, how fun would this be to gift to a surfer friend with a fig that looks like them! The small size made it perfect for my desk, but it would also look really cute on a coffee table in a beach house.
